Libraries Committee

The oldest committee at the Union, established in 1885, we facilitate its publications, host a wide array of events, and manage the Union’s library spaces.

Libraries Committee, Est. 1885.
Glasgow University Union

Are you interested in gaining experience in the fields of journalism, academia, and creative writing? … Then the Libraries Committee is the welcoming hub of likeminded students to join! Our committee is made up of the executive boards of all four of Glasgow University Union’s Publications: Groundings Undergraduate, Groundings Postgraduate, MoGUU (Magazine of the GUU), and Fleet Literary Review. This offers you a fantastic experience to take you into the world of work, features on your academic transcript, and entitles you to a slew of GUU benefits!

Want to dip your toe in first..? Then join one of our Editorial Boards, contributing to the success of our publications, all whilst being a part of the Libraries family and contributing to your CV! Want to be on the other side of things..? Become one of our contributing writers and get hands-on feedback to develop your writing.

But publications aren’t all we care about! Bob Ross and Booze, Slam Poetry Open Mic, and Second Hand Book Sales are just a handful of events you can expect of to enjoy thanks to the Libraries Committee.

Get Involved…

Applications to join Libraries Committee, or one of its publications, are now open! Please apply via the application forms — find them in each publications’ tab under ‘Hiring for 2024/25’.

Attending our fortnightly contributor meetings is the best way to get involved with MoGUU. However, we also recommend following our Instagram and joining our contributors’ group for frequent updates on what pitches we have available.

If you're more of an academic, like our Groundings page for all the updates! Also, if you find your talents in short stories and/or poetry, come and write for our creative writing project, Fleet!

If you have any more questions, don't be afraid to email our outstanding Libraries Convener, James Murdoch, at libraries@guu.co.uk
